European Model Forecasted Rain Totals Through NEXT SATURDAY - Picture via PivotalWeather
UPDATE TO ARTICLE: Portions of Dallas County saw 5-6" OF RAIN JUST TODAY. This article is not accounting for that (nor are the computer model estimate totals accounting for that).

According to the National Weather Service, North Texas is forecasted to see upwards of 4-6 INCHES of rain from this Saturday though next Saturday. Though we could see MORE rain after Saturday, we are forecasted for some areas seeing up to 1/2 foot of rain for the upcoming week.

May is known to produce the most rain in North Texas out of any month during the year. Even though that fact stands, does North Texas actually NEED The rain? According to the Drought Monitor, over 70% of DCW's Coverage Zone is NOT under any drought situation. Dating back to January, nearly all of DFW was under at least an Abnormally Dry (yellow) shading.

FORECASTED TOTALS THROUGH NEXT SATURDAY:
(All are COMPUTER estimates. Please note that these are subject to change)

Wichita Falls: 7.2"
Weatherford: 3.2"
Dallas: 5.1"
Plano: 5.8"
Denton: 4.6"
Cleburne: 6.0"
Paris: 3.1"
Waco: 5.5"
Abilene: 2.8"

To answer the question, "Does North Texas ACTUALLY NEED the rain?", well, we could use it, but not too much of it all at once. For Denton County, we average ~5.11 inches of rain for the month of May, making it the wettest month of the year for us. However, we could see up to 4-6" across the region, with SOME LOCAL AREAS having the chance of seeing up to 10 INCHES OF RAIN.

And to add-on, May isn't even close to over yet. The unsettled pattern that we will see from Saturday through potentially next-weekend could bring flooding rains and rounds of storms, in which some may be severe.
