Look at this image. This is the sight of over 20 inches of rain in a 48 hour-span. Areas near Mobile, Brent, and Panama City could see rain totals upwards of 30 inches after this is all said and done.

The European model has recently suggested areas on the coastline (where the eye makes landfall) could see rainfall totals near 35-40 inches. This is a very scary situation, as this storm has rapidly slowed down to only 2 MPH, thanks to a cold front. 

Here is the latest Denton County Weather tracker on Hurricane Sally. Overnight, it weakened from a Category 2 to a Category 1 Hurricane, with sustainable winds from 105 MPH to 85 MPH. It is expected to restrengthen close to a Category 2, as long as this system stays very slow. The current track of the hurricane is NW at 2 MPH, but it is continuing to make a turn north, then eventually east.

The cold front is currently lined up a few hundred miles inland from the Gulf Coast. This cold front is forcing the hurricane to make a very slow approach to land, which will force this hurricane to make rainfall totals upwards of 30-35 inches in areas near the eye.

This storm has a very uncertain track after it is on land for a day or so. The storm is expected to go back into the Atlantic Ocean, which is where it could restrengthen into a Tropical Storm again. Only a model or two push this storm in a rotation pattern, where it will turn south and head toward Florida. Most models bring this back into the Atlantic, where it will head Northeast/ENE and possibly affect New England by Sunday or Monday.
