Flurries This Sunday? This Is Why Some Should Be Excited

Snow is always a want for many North Texans, however, it is rare that it ever happens during a normal Winter, especially during a La Nina Winter.

La Nina Winters tend to be warmer and drier winters for most of the Southern USA. Even though this is true for this Winter, it isn't impossible to see snow. La Nina Winters only means that we will likely see above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation.

This Sunday is one of those situations where it is a possibility to see very light snow or flurries for a brief amount of time in scattered locations. Out of the main 4 long-term computer models DCW uses, two show this chance. The GFS & UKMET do not show this chance, however, the EURO & Canadian models do.

The reason why I have made this article is because more than one model show a legitimate chance of flurries. The snow likely wouldn't accumulate on warmer grounds, and it will NOT cover all of the light-blue shaded area. I would predict around 20-30% of this area would be covered, as long as the models stay on track. This is 5 days out, and we have seen some false information in the computer models in the past, but I still believe that this time, the models are more accurate.

Accumulative snow is possible in the Texas Panhandle, but once again, there is a very low chance of accumulative snow in Central TX, and parts of far West DFW.
