Flurries in the Forecast for Parts of Denton County Tomorrow. Here's What We Know

12/14/2020

Picture
Denton County is now included in a 20% chance of a mix of rain and snow tomorrow night.

Sunday, Aubrey, TX, in Denton County saw a few wet snowflakes fall to the ground. Even McKinney, TX, saw brief snow & sleet mix. None of this caused travel issues, but it all got some North Texans excited.

Snow in December is very uncommon for DFW. In fact, snow in DFW is most common between Late January and Early February. We haven't had snow chances like this in a long time during December.

Tuesday night, rain is possible in DFW, especially Northern DFW, which COULD change over to a mix of rain & snow. Any snow is NOT expected to accumulate in North Texas, since the ground will be around 34-38 in most areas. However, if you receive snow after 10PM, it could stick until you wake up in the morning. Nothing more than a coating is expected.

Travel issues are not expected Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. There is a chance for some sleet, but it won't stick as temperatures will remain above 32, until around 3-4AM in most areas.

Not all models agree on snow totals, so this is prediction is based off of 6 different models combined. (Euro & 2 Canadian Computer Models show this type of prediction, which are both usually accurate)

It is likely that areas closer to Sherman, TX, see a better chance of some sort of snow, mixed in with cold rain. No freezing rain is expected, so commute Wednesday morning should be fine.
