Elevated Fire Risk on Christmas Eve in Most of DFW

Picture
An elevated fire danger is in effect for most of DFW tomorrow as drier conditions and wind gusts are expected.

"Strong/gusty northwesterly winds will likely develop across parts of the southern Plains on Thursday, as enhanced flow at mid levels on the back side of the upper trough/low reaches the surface through diurnal mixing of the boundary layer. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph appear probable, with higher gusts possible. Even though surface temperatures should remain rather cool behind a prior frontal passage, RH values should lower enough (to around 15-25%) to support widespread elevated conditions for a few hours Thursday afternoon from parts of the TX Panhandle into southern OK and central/east TX. The occurrence of critical conditions appears too limited in both space and time to include a critical area." (NWS)

If you plan to have any outdoor festivities for Christmas Eve, make sure you do these safely and prevent from using flammables. An elevated fire danger is not expected for Christmas Day.

Unfortunately, DFW is still under a drought, and there are not very many big rain chances. Luckily, we do have one rain chance next week, but it could include severe weather with it. Read our latest 7-Day Forecast here:
